He fought in the Hazara Expedition in 1891.1 He fought in the Miranzai Expedition in 1891.1 He fought in the Isazai Expedition in 1892.1 He fought in the Chitral Campaign in 1895.1 He fought in the Boer War between 1899 and 1901, where he was mentioned in despatches.1 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1900.1 He gained the rank of Colonel in the King’s Royal Rifle Corps.1 He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in despatches.1

He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, EnglandG.2 He was Aide-de-Camp to the Governor of Bombay between 1921 and 1922.2 He was Military Secretary to the Governor-General and Commander-in-Chief of New Zealand in 1937.2 He fought in the Second World War.2 He was Lieutenant-Colonel of the 4th/7th Royal Dragoon Guards in 1941.2 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1944.2 He succeeded as the 12th Baron Byron of Rochdale, co. Lancaster [E., 1643] on 1 November 1983.2
