George Armitstead, 1st and last Baron Armitstead1

     George Armitstead, 1st and last Baron Armitstead was born on 28 February 1824 at Riga, LatviaG.1 He was the son of George Armitstead and Emma Jacobs.1 He was baptised at Riga, LatviaG. He married Jane Elizabeth Baxter, daughter of Edward Baxter and Euphemia Wilson, in 1848.1 He died on 7 December 1915 at age 91 at 4 Cleveland Square, London, EnglandG, without issue.1 He was buried on 11 December 1915.1
     He was educated at Weisbaden, GermanyG.1 He was educated at Heidelberg, Baden-Württemburg, Germany.1 He was a senior partner of Armitstead & Company, London and George Armitstead & Company, Dundee.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Liberal) for Dundee between 1868 and 1873.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.)1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Forfarshire and Dundee.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Liberal) for Dundee between 1880 and 1885.1 He was appointed Fellow, Royal Geographical Society (F.R.G.S.)2 He was created 1st Baron Armitstead, of Castlehill, in the city of Dundee [U.K.] on 19 July 1906.1
     On his death, his barony became extinct.1
