He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, EnglandG.3 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in 1946 in the Welsh Guards.3 He was educated at Royal Agricultural College, Cirencester, Gloucestershire, EnglandG.3 He succeeded as the 3rd Baron Gisborough, of Cleveland, co. York [U.K., 1917] on 11 February 1951.1 He gained the rank of Captain in 1955 in the Northumberland Hussars.3 He was Lieutenant-Colonel of the Green Howards between 1967 and 1969.3 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Cleveland in 1973.3 He was appointed Knight, Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem (K.St.J.) in 1981.3 He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of Cleveland between 1981 and 1996.3 He held the office of Lieutenant of North Yorkshire between 1996 and 2001.3
