     Reverend William Norton was born on 2 September 1815.² He was the son of Theophilus Norton and Eliza Kent.² He married Caroline Theresa Riddock, daughter of George Riddock, on 2 March 1842.² He died on 4 July 1881 at age 65.²

     He fought in the First World War.¹ He gained the rank of Rear-Admiral in the Grand Fleet.¹ He was commander of the Royal Yacht Alexandra before 1922.¹ He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Royal Victorian Order (G.C.V.O.)¹ He held the office of Treasurer of the Household.¹ He held the office of Groom-in-Waiting and Extra Equerry to King George VI between 1937 and 1945.¹
