Sir John Bowyer, 1st Bt. was baptised on 21 September 1623 at Biddulph, Staffordshire, EnglandG.1 He was the son of Sir William Bowyer and Hester Skeffington.1 He married, firstly, Mary Milward, daughter of Robert Milward, on 4 April 1648 at Snitterton, Derbyshire, EnglandG.1 He married, secondly, Elizabeth Egerton, daughter of Sir Ralph Egerton, on 11 September 1665.1 He died circa July 1666.1 He was buried on 18 July 1666 at Biddulph, Staffordshire, EnglandG.1
He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Staffordshire between August 1646 and December 1648.1 He held the office of Governor of Leek, for the Parliamentarians.1 He gained the rank of Colonel in the Army.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Newcastle-under-Lyme between 1656 and 1658.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Newcastle-under-Lyme in 1660.1 He was appointed Knight on 30 May 1660.1 He was created 1st Baronet Bowyer, of Knipersley, co. Stafford [England] on 11 September 1660.1 He held the office of Sheriff of Staffordshire from 1662 to 1663.1
