Cynthia Sophie Elliot1 
She was a Red Cross nurse in a German POW camp during the Second World War between 1940 and 1944.1 She was awarded the British Empire Medal (B.E.M.) in 1944.1 From 22 June 1944, her married name became Hore-Belisha.1 After her marriage, Cynthia Sophie Elliot was styled as Baroness Hore-Belisha on 14 January 1945. From 17 December 1957, her married name became Major.1

Leslie Hore-Belisha, 1st and last Baron Hore-Belisha1 
Leslie Hore-Belisha, 1st and last Baron Hore-Belisha was born on 7 September 1893.1 He was the son of Jacob Isaac Belisha and Elizabeth Miers.1 He married Cynthia Sophie Elliot, daughter of Gilbert Compton Elliot and Marguerita Barbey, on 22 June 1944.3 He died on 16 February 1957 at age 63.1
He was educated at Clifton College, Clifton, Bristol, EnglandG.1 He was educated at Paris, FranceG.1 He was educated at Heidelberg, Baden-Württemburg, Germany.1 He fought in the First World War, with the Royal Fusiliers and the Public Schools Battalion, and was mentioned in despatches.1 He gained the rank of Major in the Royal Army Service Corps.1 He graduated from St. John’s College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, in 1919 with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 He was admitted to Inner Temple in 1923 entitled to practise as a Barrister-at-Law.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Plymouth, Devenport Division between 1923 and 1945.1 He held the office of Minister of Transport between 1934 and 1937.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1935.1 He held the office of Secretary of State for War between 1937 and 1940.1 He held the office of Minister of National Insurance between May 1945 and July 1945.1 He was created 1st Baron Hore-Belisha, of Devonport, co. Devon [U.K.] on 14 January 1954.1
