     George Gilbert Aimé Murray was born on 2 January 1866 at Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.2 He was the son of Sir Terence Aubrey Murray and Agnes Ann Edwards.3,2 He married Lady Mary Henrietta Howard, daughter of George James Howard, 9th Earl of Carlisle and Hon. Rosalind Frances Stanley, on 30 November 1889.1 He died on 20 May 1957 at age 91.1
     He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Law (LL.D.)1 He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Civil Law (D.C.L.)1 He was Trustee of the British Museum.1 He was appointed Fellow, British Academy (F.B.A.)1 He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Letters (D.Litt.)1 He emigrated with his parents to England arriving on 1877.2 He was Emeritus Professor of Greek at Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG.1 He was appointed Order of Merit (O.M.)1
