     Sir James Hill, 1st Bt. was born on 11 March 1849.1 He married Alice Knight, daughter of Joshua Knight, on 24 February 1875.1 He died on 17 January 1936 at age 86.1
     He was founder of Sir James Hill and Son, wool merchants in 1891.1 He held the office of Lord Mayor of Bradford between 1908 and 1909.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Bradford.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Liberal) for Bradford Central between 1916 and 1918.1 He was created 1st Baronet Hill, of Bradford [U.K.] on 13 January 1917.1
