     William Richard Dawson was born on 11 September 1864 at Gilford, County Down, IrelandG.1 He was the son of Very Rev. A. Dawson.1 He married Florence Shekleton, daughter of Robert William Shekleton and Harriette Jane Achmuty, in 1898.1 He died on 17 June 1950 at age 85.1
     He was educated at Royal School, Dunngannon, County Tyrone, IrelandG.1 He graduated from Trinity College, Dublin University, Dublin, County Dublin, IrelandG, with a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.)1 He was Assistant Physician in 1894 at Royal Edinburgh Asylum, Edinburgh, Midlothian, ScotlandG.1 He was appointed Fellow, Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (F.R.C.P.I.)1 He was H.M. Inspector of Asylums in Ireland in 1911.1 He gained the rank of Major in 1915 in the Royal Army Medical Corps, in Ireland.1 He was appointed Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) in 1919.1 He was Chief Medical Officer, Ministry of Home Affairs, Northern ireland between 1922 and 1929.1
