     He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in despatches three times.¹ He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the Royal Artillery.¹ In 1916 he raised the 91st Siege Battery.¹ He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.)¹ He was awarded the Order of Leopold of Belgium.¹ He was awarded the Croix de Guerre.¹ He wrote the book Unflinching: A Diary of Tragic Adventure.¹

     Marguerite Annie Hornby was born in September 1878 at Earl’s Barton, Northamptonshire, England^G.² She was the daughter of Charles Herbert Hornby and Marguerite Ingram.^1,2 She married Lt.-Col.      Nonie Winifred Sophie Howe was born at Monkstown, County Cork, Ireland^G.² She was the daughter of Captain Percy Randell Follett Howe.¹ She married Major Charles George Hornby Christian, son of Lt.-Col. William Francis Christian and Marguerite Annie Hornby, on 22 June 1935 in a Lancaster Gate, London, England marriage.² She died at Salisbury, Wiltshire, England^G.²
