Captain Jonathan Whitby Christian1
He gained the rank of Midshipman circa 1780 in the Royal Navy, serving in H.M.S. Queen Charlotte under Earl Howe, with Admiral Sir Roger Curtis and with his cousin Admiral Sir Hugh Cloberry Christian.2 In 1785 Old Grange was sold, during his minority.2 He gained the rank of Captain in the Royal Navy.1 He saw much active service against the French and would have risen high in the service but for the fact that he was Flag-Lieutenant to Sir Hyde Parker at Copenhagen and shared in his misfortune, being long unemplyed.1 He was Inspector General of the Irish Coastguards.1
