He was commissioned in 1771 with the rank of officer, in the service of the 71st Regiment of Foot.3 He gained the rank of officer in 1783 in the 6th Regiment of Foot.3 He was Colonel of the 55th Regiment.1 He held the office of Lieutenant-Governor of Gibraltar in 1810.1
