Eric John Francis James, Baron James of Rusholme was born on 13 April 1909.1 He was the son of Francis William James and Lilian Taylor.1 He married Cordelia Mary Wintour, daughter of Maj.-Gen. Fitzgerald Wintour and Alice Jane Blanche Foster, in 1939.3 He died on 16 May 1992 at age 83.4
He was educated at Taunton School, Taunton, Somerset, England.1 He graduated from Queen’s College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, in 1931 with a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.)1 He graduated from Queen’s College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, in 1931 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)1 He graduated from Queen’s College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, in 1933 with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 He graduated from Queen’s College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, in 1933 with a Doctor of Philosophy (D.Ph.)1 He was assistant master between 1933 and 1945 at Winchester College, Winchester, Hampshire, England.1 He was High Master between 1945 and 1962 at Manchester Grammar School, Manchester, Lancashire, EnglandG.5 He was member of the University Grants Committee between 1948 and 1958.1 He wrote the book An Essay on the Content of Education, published 1949.5 He wrote the book Education and Leadership, published 1951.3 He was appointed Knight Bachelor in 1956.3 He was created Baron James of Rusholme, of Fallowfield in the County Palatine of Lancashire [U.K. Life Peer] on 19 February 1959.4 He held the office of Vice-Chancellor of York University between 1962 and 1973.3
