Robert Kerr, 2nd Earl of Lothian1 
He was educated at Padua University, Padua, ItalyG.1 He was appointed Knight, Order of the Bath (K.B.) in 1603.1 He was Master of requests in 1606.1 He succeeded as the 2nd Earl of Lothian [S., 1606] on 8 April 1609.1 He succeeded as the 2nd Lord Newbottle [S., 1591] on 8 April 1609.1 On 29 March 1621 he received a regrant of his Lordship with remainder to his heirs male of his body, then to his eldest unmarried daughter who then marries a husband of honourable descent to take the name of Kerr, then to his next unmarried female with the same conditions.1

He was the Vicar in 1567 at Linton, Peebles-shire, ScotlandG.1 He was Master of Requests between 1577 and 1606.1 He held the office of Gentleman of the Bedchamber in 1580.1 He was Commendator of Newbottle in 1581.1 He held the office of Extra Lord of Session between 1584 and 1609.1 He had Crown charters of the Baronies of Newbottle and Preston Grange.1 He was created 1st Lord Newbottle [Scotland] on 15 October 1591, with remainder to his heirs male and assigns.1 He was created 1st Earl of Lothian [Scotland] on 10 July 1606, with remainder to his heirs male.2 The Privy Council appointed a commission of inquiry to investigate two women suspected of an act of sorcery leading to his death.1
