     On 22 November 1493 he had a Crown charter of the Barony of Frendraught on the resignation of his grandmother, Janet Dunbar.3

     Gavin Borthwick of Fenton was born illegitimately.1 He was the son of Sir William Borthwick, 3rd Lord Borthwick.1 He married Elizabeth Fenton, daughter of John Fenton of that Ilk, before 1523.1 He and Elizabeth Fenton were divorced in 1523.1 He died before 1553, without issue.1
     In 1537 his birth was legitimated.1
