     Sir Robert James Black, 1st Bt. was born on 19 July 1860.¹ He was the son of Robert John Black and Rosa Sinclair Blow.¹ He married Ellen Cecilia La Touche, daughter of Lt.-Gen. William Paget La Touche, on 26 December 1890. He died on 28 September 1925 at age 65.¹
     He was a director of Shell Transport.¹ He was chairman of the Mercantile Bank of India.¹ He was created 1st Baronet Black, of Midgham, co. Berks [U.K.] on 19 June 1922.¹
