Hon. Sir George Rothe Bellew was born on 13 December 1899.1 He was the son of Hon. Richard Eustace Bellew and Gwendoline Marie Josephine Herbert-Huddleston.1 He married Ursula Kennard Cull, daughter of Anders Eric Knös Cull, on 24 September 1935.1 He died on 6 February 1993 at age 93 at Surrey, England.1,3
He was educated at Wellington College, Berkshire, EnglandG.1 He held the office of Portcullis Pursuivant of Arms between 1922 and 1926.1 He held the office of Somerset Herald between 1926 and 1950.1 He was educated at Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG.1 He was appointed Member, Royal Victorian Order (M.V.O.) in 1935 4th class.1 He held the office of Registrar of the College of Arms between 1935 and 1945.1 He gained the rank of Squadron Leader in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve.1 He fought in the Second World War, where he was mentioned in despatches.1 He was honorary Genealogist to the Royal Victorian Order between 1945 and 1961.1 He was appointed Knight, Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem (K.St.J.)1 He was appointed Commander, Royal Victorian Order (C.V.O.) in 1950.1 He was appointed Knight in 1950.1 He was appointed Fellow, Society of Antiquaries (F.S.A.)1 He held the office of Garter King of Arms between December 1950 and July 1961.1 He was Genealogist of the Order of the Bath between December 1950 and July 1961.1 He was appointed Knight Commander, Royal Victorian Order (K.C.V.O.) in 1953.1 He was Knight Principal of the Imperial Society of the Knights Bachelor in 1957.1 He was Inspector of Regtal Colours between 1957 and 1961.1 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.) in 1961.1 He was Secretary of the Order of the Garter between 1961 and 1974.1
