He was educated at Grosvenor College, Bath, Somerset, EnglandG.1 He held the office of Member of the Legislative Council (M.L.C.) [Ceylon]1 He was in the Colonial Civil Service in 1846.1 He held the office of Member of the Legislative Council (M.L.C.) [Mauritius]1 He held the office of Collector of Customs and Receiver-General of Mauritius.1 He held the office of Auditor-General of Ceylon.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1870.1 He succeeded as the 11th Baronet Barclay, of Pierston, co. Ayr [N.S., 1668] on 23 November 1888.1 He was awarded the Commandeur, Ordre national de la Légion d’honneur in 1889.1

He gained the rank of Captain in the 19th Hussars.1 He fought in the Egyptian Campaign in 1882, where he was wounded at Tel-el-Kebir.1 He gained the rank of Sudan campaign in 1884.1 He succeeded as the 12th Baronet Barclay, of Pierston, co. Ayr [N.S., 1668] on 18 February 1896.1 He gained the rank of Temporary Captain and Railway Staff Officer in 1914.2

William Orde-Powlett, 2nd Baron Bolton of Bolton Castle1 
He was given the name of William Orde at birth.4 In 1795 his name was legally changed to William Orde-Powlett.4 He was educated at King’s College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Tory) for Yarmouth between April 1807 and July 1807.2 He succeeded as the 2nd Baron Bolton of Bolton Castle, co. York [G.B., 1797] on 30 July 1807.2
