     Lt.-Col. Sir Arthur D’Arcy Gordon Bannerman of Elsick, 12th Bt. was born on 20 February 1866.¹ He was the son of Colonel Patrick Wilson Bannerman and Flora Lindsay Vanrenen.¹ He married, firstly, Virginia Emilie Bedford, daughter of William J. Guthrie Bedford, on 7 June 1889.¹ He married, secondly, Philippa Baumgartner, daughter of Edward Jocelyn Baumgartner, in November 1918.¹ He died on 27 April 1955 at age 89.¹
     He was educated at Harrow School, Harrow, London, England^G.¹ He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the Indian Army.¹ He was educated at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire, England^G.¹ He was appointed Companion, Order of the Indian Empire (C.I.E.) in 1903.¹ He held the office of Resident of Kashmir between 1917 and 1921.¹ He was Political Aide-de-Camp to the Secretary of State for India between 1921 and 1928.¹ He was appointed Knight Commander, Royal Victorian Order (K.C.V.O.) in 1928.¹ He held the office of Gentleman Usher in 1928, to King George V.¹ He succeeded as the 12th Baronet Bannerman, of Elsick, co. Kincardine [N.S., 1682] on 10 March 1934.¹ He held the office of Extra Gentleman Usher in 1936, to King Edward VIII.¹ He held the office of Extra Gentleman Usher between 1937 and 1952, to King George VI.¹ He held the office of Extra Gentleman Usher between 1952 and 1955, to Queen Elizabeth II.¹

     Colonel Patrick Wilson Bannerman was born on 23 December 1833.¹ He was the son of Patrick Wilson Bannerman and Anna Maria Johnston.¹ He married Flora Lindsay Vanrenen, daughter of Maj.-Gen. T. A. Vanrenen, on 20 May 1859.¹ He died on 1 December 1912 at age 78.¹
     He gained the rank of Colonel in the Indian Army.¹

     Patrick Wilson Bannerman was born on 18 December 1794.¹ He was the son of Charles Bannerman and Margaret Wilson.¹ He married Anna Maria Johnston, daughter of Sir William Johnston of Caskieben, 7th Bt. and Maria Bacon, on 5 September 1826.¹ He died on 16 September 1854 at age 59.¹
     He lived at Elmsfield, Aberdeenshire, Scotland^G.¹

     Charles Bannerman was baptised on 7 June 1750 at St. Nicholas, Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Scotland^G.² He was the son of Alexander Bannerman and Margaret Burnett.¹ He married Margaret Wilson, daughter of Patrick Wilson, on 6 January 1785.¹ He died in September 1813 at age 63.¹
     He was an advocate at Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Scotland^G.³

     Sir Alexander Bannerman of Elsick is the son of Alexander Bannerman of Elsick and Elizabeth Johnston.² He married, firstly, Margaret Forbes, daughter of William Forbes.² He married, secondly, Marjory Leslie, daughter of Sir John Leslie of Wardis, 1st Bt. and Elspeth Gordon.²

     Elizabeth Johnston is the daughter of John Johnston of that Ilk and of Caskieban.¹ She married Alexander Bannerman of Elsick in 1586.¹
     From 1586, her married name became Bannerman.¹

     Margaret Forbes was the daughter of William Forbes.¹ She married Sir Alexander Bannerman of Elsick, son of Alexander Bannerman of Elsick and Elizabeth Johnston.¹
     Her married name became Bannerman.¹

     William Forbes lived at Tolquhon, Scotland^G.¹

     Marjory Leslie was the daughter of Sir John Leslie of Wardis, 1st Bt. and Elspeth Gordon.^1,2 She married, firstly, Sir Alexander Bannerman of Elsick, son of Alexander Bannerman of Elsick and Elizabeth Johnston.¹ She married, secondly, Sir John Fletcher.¹
     Her married name became Fletcher.¹ Her married name became Bannerman.¹
