He was given the name of John Joseph Francis Berkeley at birth.1 He was educated at Stonyhurst College, Blackburn, Lancashire, EnglandG.1 He was educated at New College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Lancashire in 1906.1 He gained the rank of Captain in the 1st Battalion, King’s Own Regiment.1 He fought in the First World War, where he wa mentioned in despatches.1 In 1924 his name was legally changed to John Joseph Francis Berkeley-Weld.1
