George van den Bempdé-Johnstone, 3rd Marquess of Annandale1
He was given the name of George Johnstone at birth.1 He succeeded as the 4th Viscount Annand [S., 1661] on 10 February 1729/30.2 He succeeded as the 4th Earl of Annandale and Hartfell [S., 1662] on 10 February 1729/30, as well the 1661 creation.1 He held the office of Hereditary Steward of Annandale and Hereditary Keeper of Lochmaben Palace on 10 February 1729/30.1 He succeeded as the 4th Lord Johnston of Lochwood, Lochmaben, Moffatdale and Evandale [S., 1662] on 10 February 1729/30, as well the 1661 creation.2 He succeeded as the 3rd Earl of Hartfell [S., 1701] on 10 February 1729/30.1 He succeeded as the 3rd Marquess of Annandale [S., 1701] on 10 February 1729/30.1 He succeeded as the 3rd Lord Johnston of Lochwood, Lochmaben, Moffatdale and Evandale [S., 1701] on 10 February 1729/30.1 He succeeded as the 3rd Viscount of Annand [S., 1701] on 10 February 1729/30.1 In 1744 his name was legally changed to George van den Bempdé-Johnstone by Act of Parliament.1 In 1747 under the act abolishing hereditary jurisdictions, he was awarded £2,200 as compensation for Stewatry of Annadale and £800 for Regality of Moffat.1 On 5 March 1748 he was found to have been insane since 1744.1
On his death, his titles became dormant, although the Earldom of Annandale and Hartfell, and the Lordship of Johnstone were confirmed on Andrew Johnstone in 1985 by the House of Lords.1
