He was educated at Marlborough College, Marlborough, Wiltshire, EnglandG.2 He was educated at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire, EnglandG.2 He was Aide-de-Camp to the Governor-General of Canada between 1932 and 1934.2 He fought in the Second World War, where he was mentioned in despatches.2 He was awarded the Companion, Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1944 and bar (1945.)2 He was Brigadier-General of the Staff HQ, North Army Group between 1952 and 1954.2 He was Chief of Staff of the Far East Land Forces between 1954 and 1958.2 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1955.2 He was commanding officer of the 51 Highland Division between 1956 and 1959.2 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for West Sussex in 1960.2 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Sussex in 1962.2 He gained the rank of Major-General in the Gordon Highlanders.2 He lived at Old Bartons, Stoughton, Sussex, EnglandG.2
