Lt.-Gen. Sir Charles James Napier was born on 10 August 1782.2 He was the son of Colonel Hon. George Napier and Lady Sarah Lennox.2 He married, firstly, Elizabeth Oakeley, daughter of Thomas Oakeley, in April 1827.2 He married, secondly, Frances Philipps, daughter of William Philipps, in 1835.2 He died on 29 August 1853 at age 71.3
He gained the rank of Colonel in the 22nd Regiment.2 He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Order of the Bath (G.C.B.)3 He held the office of Commander-in-Chief of India.3
