He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of the County and City of Belfast.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Belfast.1 He held the office of High Sheriff of Belfast in 1911.1 He held the office of Lord Mayor of Belfast between 1914 and 1916.1 He was appointed Knight on 19 May 1915.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) [Northern Ireland] between 1921 and 1925, for South Belfast.1 He held the office of Lord Mayor of Belfast between 1931 and 1943.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.)1 He was created 1st Baronet McCullagh, of Lismara, in the parish of Carnmoney, co. Antriim [U.K.] on 1 July 1935.1 He held the office of Lord Mayor of Belfast in 1945.1

Sir Joseph Crawford McCullagh, 2nd Bt.1 
He was educated at Campbell College, Belfast, County Antrim, Ireland.1 He succeeded as the 2nd Baronet McCullagh, of Lismara, in the parish of Carnmoney, co. Antriim [U.K., 1935] on 13 April 1948.1 On his death his baronetcy became extinct.2
