In 1556 he was involved in quarrels with 11th Earl of Sutherland, to whom he surrendered, being imprisoned for a while Edinburgh Castle.1 In 1571 he got back his father’s lands from 5th Earl of Huntly, to whom they had been regranted by the Crown.1
