Frederick Peter Layard and Ida Gabrielle Betts.1 He married Isabel Scobell, daughter of Colonel Henry Sales Scobell and Catherine Sarah Jenner Bedford, on 29 December 1892 at British Legation, Tokyo, Japan.1
     He was with H.B.M. Consular Service, Japan in 1881.1

     From 29 December 1892, her married name became Layard.1
