     Janet Payne Carlyle was the daughter of unknown Carlyle of Brydekirk and Brakenquhate.² She married Donald Macdonald, son of Donald Macdonald and Mary Maclean, on 12 August 1754.¹ She died on 29 December 1796.¹
     From 12 August 1754, her married name became Macdonald.

     Allan Macdonald was born in 1755.¹ He was the son of Donald Macdonald and Janet Payne Carlyle.² He died on 8 January 1793, unmarried.¹
     He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the 67th Regiment (Macdonald Highlanders.)¹

     Donald Macdonald was born in 1759.¹ He was the son of Donald Macdonald and Janet Payne Carlyle.² He married Mary Bell, daughter of unknown Bell, on 30 July 1798.¹

     Mary Bell is the daughter of unknown Bell.¹ She married Donald Macdonald, son of Donald Macdonald and Janet Payne Carlyle, on 30 July 1798.¹
     From 30 July 1798, her married name became Macdonald.

     William Bell Macdonald, 2nd of Rammerscales was born on 26 December 1807.¹ He was the son of Donald Macdonald and Mary Bell.² He married Helen Johnston, daughter of Thomas Johnston of Underwood, on 23 March 1839.¹ He died on 5 December 1862 at age 54.¹
     He graduated from Glasgow University, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland, with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)¹ He gained the rank of Surgeon in the Royal Navy.¹ In 1837 he succeeded his uncle in Rammerscales.¹ He was Physician to Catherine the Great, Tsarina of Russia.¹ He was a linguist and classical scholar.¹ He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Dumfries-shire.¹

     Thomas Johnston of Underwood lived at Underwood, Dumfries-shire, Scotland.¹

     Helen Johnston was the daughter of Thomas Johnston of Underwood.² She married William Bell Macdonald, 2nd of Rammerscales, son of Donald Macdonald and Mary Bell, on 23 March 1839.¹ She died in 1898.¹
     From 23 March 1839, her married name became Macdonald.

     Major William Bell Macdonald, 3rd of Rammerscales was born on 9 January 1845.¹ He was the son of William Bell Macdonald, 2nd of Rammerscales and Helen Johnston.² He married Violet Frances Rutherford, daughter of James Buckley Rutherford, on 19 September 1882.¹ He died on 16 June 1923 at age 78.¹
     He was educated at Cheltenham College, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England.¹ He was educated at Glasgow University, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland.¹ He gained the rank of Major in the 1st Regiment (Royal Scots.)¹

     Sir Ernest Victor Buckley Rutherford is the son of James Buckley Rutherford.

     Violet Frances Rutherford was the daughter of James Buckley Rutherford.² She married Major William Bell Macdonald, 3rd of Rammerscales, son of William Bell Macdonald, 2nd of Rammerscales and Helen Johnston, on 19 September 1882.¹ She died on 16 July 1933.¹
     From 19 September 1882, her married name became Macdonald.
