     Colonel Charles William Brereton was born in 1839.2 He was the son of Reverend John Brereton.1 He married, firstly, Marian Marcella Lambert, daughter of John Walter Henry Lambert and Anne Fetherstonhaugh, on 14 March 1867 at St. Mark’s Church, Bangalore, India.1,3 He married, secondly, Amy Charlotte Abdy, daughter of General Charles Hayes Abdy and Catharine Malcolm Armstrong, on 21 February 1870.4 He died in 1917.2
     He retired from the military in 1892, with the rank of Colonel, late of the Madras Artillery.1,2
