     John Vernon Dobbin was born on 31 March 1899.¹ He was the son of John Henry Brooke Dobbin and Margaret Evelyn Vernon.² He married Jean Madeline Horniman, daughter of David E. Horniman, on 7 April 1927.¹ He died on 20 July 1963 at age 64.¹
     He was educated at Sydney Grammar School, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia^G.¹ He fought in the First World War, with 1st Australian Light Horse.¹ He was a chartered accountant.¹
