     He was educated at Portora Royal School, Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, Ireland^G.¹ He was commissioned in 1902, in the service of the Royal Artillery.¹ He was educated at Royal Military Academy, Woolwich, Kent, England^G.¹ He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in despatches three times.¹ He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1917.¹ He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the 84th East Anglian Field Brigade, Royal Field Artillery.¹ He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.)¹ He lived at Harpley Lodge, King’s Lynn, Norfolk, England^G.¹

     Richard Auchinleck Dane was born on 20 September 1911.¹ He is the son of Lt.-Col. James Auchinleck Dane and Elgiva Mary Kathorn Fitzwilliam.^2,1

     Annie Eleanor Thompson is the daughter of William Thompson. She married, firstly, Richard Martin Dane, son of William Auchinleck Dane and Sarah Foster.¹ She married, secondly, Francis D’Arcy Thompson, son of Reverend Francis Daniel Thompson, on 3 September 1908.¹
     Her married name became Dane. From 3 September 1908, her married name became Thomson.¹

     Mary Hayes married John Dane, son of John Dane and Margaret Humphries, on 23 February 1834.¹
     From 23 February 1834, her married name became Dane.¹

     Robert Archer Ross Todd married Sarah Gertrude Dane, daughter of William Auchinleck Dane and Sarah Foster, on 8 August 1884.¹ He and Sarah Gertrude Dane were divorced in 1896.¹
