He held the office of Gentleman of the Privy Chamber in 1661.3 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Huntingdon between 1661 and 1679.1,3 He succeeded as the 3rd Baronet Cotton, of Connington, co. Huntingdon [E., 1611] on 13 May 1662.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Huntingdonshire between 1685 and 1687.3 His last will was dated between 11 April 1701 and 8 April 1712.3
