He was educated at Harrow School, Harrow, London, EnglandG.2 He was educated at Magdalen College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the Coldstream Guards.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve and Royal Naval Air Service.2 He fought in the First World War.2 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Lancashire.1 He succeeded as the 12th Baronet Hoghton, of Hoghton Tower, and Walton le Dale, co. Lancaster [E., 1611] on 4 November 1938.1
