He was a practising barrister.1 He held the office of Solicitor-General in 1733.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for St. Germans in 1733.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Tiverton between 1733 and 1754.1 He held the office of Attorney-General in 1737.1 He held the office of Chief Justice of the King’s Bench between 1754 and 1756.1 On 24 May 1756 a warrant to enoble him was signed, but he died before it passed the Great Seal.1
