     Murdoch Bruce, Jr. was born on 29 December 1876 at Springston, Canterbury, New Zealand^G.² He was the son of Murdoch Bruce and Catherine Polson. He married Irene Zohrab on 17 April 1908.³ He died on 4 May 1941 at age 64.^2,4 He was buried at Ashburton Public Cemetery, Ashburton, New Zealand^G, plot 3562.⁵
     He has an extensive biographical entry in the Murdoch was widely respected as an astute businessman and during his lifetime he played an active role in both business and community affairs. He was treasurer of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church for 19 years and for over 35 years as an elder. He devoted a great deal of his time to the Church’s activities. He was on the Ashburton High School Board of Governors for 16 years, a member of the Rotary Club, the A & P Association, the Mortgage Adjustment Commission and a Director of the Gas, Coal and Coke Company as well as serving a term as President of the Chamber of Commerce. In his younger days, Murdoch was a keen athlete and retained his interest as secretary of the Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club for many years.

      He was brought up living at Ocean View Farm, Buckleys Road, Seafield, Canterbury, New Zealand^G, from 1877 to 1897.⁶ He was a student at Seafield School, Seafield, Canterbury, New Zealand^G.⁶ He was a student at Ashburton High School, Ashburton, New Zealand^G.⁶ He was an accountant with the National Mortgage and Agency Company Ltd at Ashburton, New Zealand^G.⁶ He was a grain and seed merchant, with H.A. Lloyd (grain and seed merchant) at Ashburton, New Zealand^G.⁶ He lived at 31 Peter Street West, Ashburton, New Zealand^G, from 1911 to 1914.⁷ He was a grain and seed merchant with David Thomas at Ashburton, New Zealand^G.⁶ He was a seed and grain merchant with Murdoch Bruce and Company from 1919 to 1941 at Ashburton, New Zealand^G.^6,8 He lived at West Street, Ashburton, New Zealand^G, between 1925 and 1928.^9,10

     Irene Zohrab was born on 23 August 1880.² She married Murdoch Bruce, Jr., son of Murdoch Bruce and Catherine Polson, on 17 April 1908.² She died on 18 July 1953 at age 72.^2,3 She was buried at Ashburton Public Cemetery, Ashburton, New Zealand^G.³
     From 17 April 1908, her married name became Bruce.² Irene lived with her husband at 31 Peter Street West, Ashburton, New Zealand^G, from 1911 to 1914.⁴ Irene lived with her husband at Wills Street, Ashburton, New Zealand^G, in 1925.⁵ Irene lived with her husband at West Street, Ashburton, New Zealand^G, in 1928.⁶

     Edith Eileen Bruce was born on 6 March 1908.² She is the daughter of Murdoch Bruce, Jr. and Irene Zohrab. She married Geoffrey Charles Brooks.³
     Her married name became Brooks.³

     Alan Murdoch Bruce was born on 1 June 1910.² He is the son of Murdoch Bruce, Jr. and Irene Zohrab. He married Margaret Otira Vivienne Opie.³
     He and Raymond John Zohrab Bruce were a grain and seed merchant with Murdoch Bruce and Company from 1941 to 1966 at Ashburton, New Zealand^G, The business was sold to Buchanan (Merchants) Ltd in 1966.²

     Raymond John Zohrab Bruce was born on 21 December 1914.² He is the son of Murdoch Bruce, Jr. and Irene Zohrab. He married Mabel Jean Osman.³
