Murdoch Bruce, Jr.1 
He has an extensive biographical entry in the Murdoch was widely respected as an astute businessman and during his lifetime he played an active role in both business and community affairs. He was treasurer of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church for 19 years and for over 35 years as an elder. He devoted a great deal of his time to the Church’s activities. He was on the Ashburton High School Board of Governors for 16 years, a member of the Rotary Club, the A & P Association, the Mortgage Adjustment Commission and a Director of the Gas, Coal and Coke Company as well as serving a term as President of the Chamber of Commerce. In his younger days, Murdoch was a keen athlete and retained his interest as secretary of the Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club for many years.
He was brought up living at Ocean View Farm, Buckleys Road, Seafield, Canterbury, New ZealandG, from 1877 to 1897.6 He was a student at Seafield School, Seafield, Canterbury, New ZealandG.6 He was a student at Ashburton High School, Ashburton, New ZealandG.6 He was an accountant with the National Mortgage and Agency Company Ltd at Ashburton, New ZealandG.6 He was a grain and seed merchant, with H.A.
