     Maj.-Gen. Hugh Judson Kilpatrick was born on 14 January 1836 at Wantage Township, Sussex Borough, New Jersey, U.S.A.G.1 He was the son of Colonel Simon Kilpatrick and Julia Wickham.1 He married, secondly, Luisa Valdivieso Araoz.1 He died on 4 December 1881 at age 45 at Santiago, ChileG.1
     He graduated from U.S. Military Academy, West Point, New York, U.S.A.G, in 1861.1 He gained the rank of Captain in 1861 in the 5th New York Infantry.1 He gained the rank of 2nd Lieutenant in 1861 in the 1st U.S. Artillery.1 He fought in the Battle of Big Bethel on 10 June 1861.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in September 1861 in the 2nd New York Cavalry.1 He fought in the Second Battle of Bull Run in August 1862.1 He gained the rank of Colonel on 6 December 1862.1 He gained the rank of Brigadier-General on 13 June 1863.1 He fought in the Battle of Gettysburg on 2 July 1863.1 He fought in the American Civil War.1 He gained the rank of Brevet Major-General on 18 June 1865 in the Union Army.1 He held the office of U.S. Minister to Chile between 1865 and 1870.1 He held the office of U.S. Minister to Chile in March 1881.1

     From before 1926, her married name became Converse.3 She succeeded as the Viscountess Furness on 27 June 1926. From 27 June 1926, her married name became Furness.3
