He graduated from Exeter College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, in 1877 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)1 He was admitted to Inner Temple in 1879 entitled to practise as a Barrister-at-Law.1 He was appointed Queen’s Counsel (Q.C.) in 1895.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Shropshire.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Shropshire.1 He held the office of Chairman of the Quarter Sessions for Shropshire.1 He held the office of Recorder of Bolton in 1901.1 He held the office of Presiding Judge, Court of Passage between 1903 and 1948.1 He held the office of Bencher of the Inner Temple in 1905.1 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the British Empire (K.B.E.) in 1918.1 He held the office of Judge of Appeal [Isle of Man] between 1918 and 1921.1 He held the office of Vice-President of the War Compensation Court between 1920 and 1921.1 He held the office of Treasurer of the Inner Temple in 1926.1 He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Order of the British Empire (G.B.E.) in 1929.1 He was created 1st Baron Maenan, of Ellesmere, co. Salop. [U.K.] on 29 June 1948.1
