     Robert Stevenson Horne, 1st Viscount Horne of Slamannan was born on 28 February 1871.¹ He was the son of Reverend Robert Stevenson Horne and Mary Lockhead.¹ He died on 3 September 1940 at age 69.¹
     He was educated at George Watson’s College, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland^G.¹ He graduated from University of Glasgow, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland^G, with a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.)¹ He graduated from University of Glasgow, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland^G, with a Master of Arts (M.A.)¹ He was lecturer in philosophy in 1895 at University College of North Wales, Bangor, Caernarvonshire, Wales^G.¹ He was admitted to Scottish Bar in 1896.¹ He was an examiner in philosophy between 1896 and 1900 at Aberdeen University, Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Scotland^G.¹ He was appointed King’s Counsel (K.C.) in 1910.¹ He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the Royal Engineers.¹ He fought in the First World War.¹ He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the British Empire (K.B.E.) in 1918.¹ He held the office of Third Lord of the Admiralty between 1918 and 1919.¹ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Glasgow, Hillhead Division between 1918 and 1937.¹ He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1919.¹ He held the office of Minister of Labour between 1919 and 1920.¹ He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Order of the British Empire (G.B.E.) in 1920.¹ He held the office of President of the Board of Trade between 1920 and 1921.¹ He held the office of Chancellor of the Exchequer between 1921 and 1922.¹ He was chairman of the Great Western Railway Company in 1934.¹ He was created 1st Viscount Horne of Slamannan [U.K.] on 9 June 1937.¹ On his death, his title became extinct.¹

     Reverend Robert Stevenson Horne was born on 27 May 1830.¹ He was the son of George Horne and Margaret Stevenson.¹ He married Mary Lockhead, daughter of Thomas Lockhead, on 3 September 1856.¹ He died on 30 April 1887 at age 56.¹
