     He was commissioned on 3 June 1827 with the rank of First-Class Volunteer, in the service of the Royal Navy on board H.M.S. Revenge.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant on 26 October 1840.1

     Edward King Barnard was born on 1 July 1815 at Plymouth, Devon, England.1 He was the son of Rear-Admiral Sir Edward King Barnard and Mary Parkin.1 He married Augusta Sophia Wolrige, daughter of Captain Thomas Wolrige and Emma Sophia Ridge, on 11 December 1847 at St. George’s Chapel, East Stonehouse, Devon, England.2 He died on 5 September 1896 at age 81 at St. Cuthbert’s, Swanwick, Hampshire, England.2
     He gained the rank of Midshipman in August 1828 in the Royal Navy, on board H.M.S. Britomart.1
