     W/Cdr. Nickolas Peter Bond was born in 1947.1 He is the son of Captain Tony Thawnton and Gabrielle Hilda Blunt.1 He married Diane Christine Edwards in 1970.1
     He was given the name of Nicholas Peter Thawnton at birth.1 In 1955 his name was legally changed to Nicholas Peter Bond.1 He was adopted by Julian M. Bond in 1955.1 He retired from the military in December 1975, with the rank of Flight Lieutenant, late of the Royal Air Force.1,2 He retired from the military in January 1994, with the rank of Wing Commander, late of the Royal New Zealand Air Force.1,2 In January 2009 his name was legally changed to Nickolas Peter Bond by Statutory Declaration.2 He retired from the military at Wellington, New Zealand.2
